Nighthawks is a photography project which captures elements of isolation, melancholy and disconnection which can pervade busy towns and cities at night.
In crowded places people often appear oblivious to each other’s presence, and this has been amplified by the use of smart phones and social media which detach individuals from their immediate environment and put them into a world of their own. People in the images often appear lost in this inner world. Open spaces without people in them may appear haunting, abandoned and evocative.
The series encourages viewers to use imagination to develop their own stories about what the images depict, who the people are and what took them to the point when the photograph was taken.
The photographs from Nighthawks are currently being developed into an exhibition.
