50 Years On (50YO) is a new project by Davenant which explores the impact of five decades of neoliberalism and deindustrialisation on six towns in Britain. The project will examine issues including industry as community, the loss of shared social spaces, privatisation, austerity, the decline of the high street and the erosion of a sense of place in post-industrial towns which feel abandoned by successive governments.

This will be a long form social documentary photography project working with communities in the towns in question and documenting issues from their perspective. The approach will be the same as that used in the Outsiders Project with the focus being on participants in the project rather than the photographer.

Images and stories from 50YO will be developed into a book and an exhibition.
