Nighthawks

Nighthawks began as a series exploring that feeling of being alone in busy cities at night. From fleeting moments in the late bustle of Soho, to the silence of dawn on Hampstead Heath, enveloped in mist, the morning after Halloween. That sense of disconnection, together yet alone in a crowded space, has pervaded the human experience since time immemorial.

Isolation is a recurring theme throughout this series, and some may find the images melancholic – people looking into the distance lost in their own inner thoughts or gazing blank-faced at a screen unaware of the human connections all around them. Others may prefer their own company.

Nighthawks is now available as a zine and is being developed into an exhibition.

Most of the images in this series are archival and have never been published before. Any stories which come to mind when looking at these photographs are for you to create for yourself.
